Afghan Jiu-Jitsu Athlete Loses to Palestinian Opponent

Madina Sharifi, Afghanistan’s national jiu-jitsu athlete in the under-63kg category, was defeated by technical knockout by Palestinian athlete Danya Obaid in her first appearance at the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games, ending her campaign.

The 23-year-old Sharifi faced 32-year-old Obaid.

Their match took place in the round of 32 of the Nagoya Asian Games.

With Sharifi’s defeat, Afghanistan’s women athletes concluded their participation in the 20th Asian Games in Japan.

Afghanistan had seven female athletes competing at the Games and finished with one silver medal.

The silver is currently Afghanistan’s best result at this edition of the Games.

Fariba Hashemi won the medal in road cycling, becoming the first Afghan woman athlete to finish on the podium at the Asian Games.
