The organization shared the story of a mother named Fareeda from Kandahar, who is facing severe hunger along with her children.
Fareeda, a mother of two, told the World Food Programme that her children cry from hunger when they wake up.
The World Food Programme added that for Fareeda, hunger is part of her daily reality.
The organization emphasized that when food runs out at home, mothers in Afghanistan are faced with impossible and painful choices.
The World Food Programme specified that Fareeda survives on dry bread every day due to poverty, and during her interview with the organization, she had not cooked anything for several consecutive days because she had nothing to cook.
Both of Fareeda’s children suffer from anemia, and due to her financial struggles, she is unable to provide them with medical care.
This mother mentioned that her older child is six years old and cannot go to school because of anemia, spending all day at home due to illness.
Recently, international organizations have expressed concern about the increasing hunger alongside the reduction of humanitarian funding in Afghanistan.
The World Food Programme previously called for an immediate provision of $500 million to meet the needs of hungry individuals in Afghanistan before winter.
