UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, has recently highlighted the importance of supporting the nutrition of women during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as ensuring children have access to diverse and nutritious foods.
In a statement, the organization noted that after a child reaches six months of age, families need support to provide the diverse and nutritious foods necessary for their children’s healthy growth.
The statement mentioned that the provision of health services, access to clean water and sanitation facilities, vaccination, and social support should be carried out alongside nutritional programs to effectively assist vulnerable families.
UNICEF emphasized that it and its partners are working towards this goal, with one of the initiatives being the “First Foods” program, which focuses specifically on children aged six to 23 months.
The statement highlighted that children require diverse and nutritious foods for healthy growth; however, many vulnerable families still face barriers in accessing appropriate food and essential services.
UNICEF has called for strengthened support for mothers and children and coordinated action to ensure proper nutrition and guarantee the healthy growth of children.
It is worth noting that adequate nutrition for mothers during pregnancy and breastfeeding, along with children’s access to diverse and nutritious foods, is considered crucial for their healthy development.
