The United Nations has criticized the caretaker government’s restrictions against women and girls, reiterating that the five-year deprivation of Afghan girls from their right to education is an obstacle to the country’s economic and social progress.
In a message posted on its X account, the organization warned: “Every day that girls are prevented from going to school and women are barred from participating in the workforce, Afghanistan’s social and economic progress is pushed further back.”
Using the hashtag “Let Afghan Girls Learn,” the UN has once again emphasized the right to education for girls and women in Afghanistan.
Since regaining power, the caretaker government has halted the education of girls beyond the sixth grade and subsequently imposed restrictions on women’s higher education and employment.
These policies have faced widespread criticism from the UN and international human rights organizations.
The United Nations had previously warned that the continued deprivation of girls and women from education and work would have long-term consequences for Afghanistan’s economy, development, and social stability.
