Afghanistan Rights Watch has criticized the ongoing ban on education for girls above the sixth grade, stating that despite nearly five years of deprivation, girls in Afghanistan continue to keep their dreams of learning alive.
In a message posted on its X account, the organization emphasized the necessity of advocacy and support for the right to education for girls and women in Afghanistan.
The organization added that Afghan girls, despite being deprived of education beyond the sixth grade for about five years, have not given up on their aspiration to continue their studies.
Afghanistan Rights Watch stressed in its message that the dream of learning among Afghan girls is alive, and the books waiting for their return to classrooms should not be forgotten.
Furthermore, Afghanistan Rights Watch stated that the revival of the right to education for girls above the sixth grade requires ongoing advocacy and broad support for them.
Part of the message reads: “Let girls learn and stand with the girls of Afghanistan.”
It has now been 1,768 days since schools for girls above the sixth grade have been closed in Afghanistan. The interim government, after taking control of Afghanistan, has deprived women and girls of education and schooling. In its latest restriction, it also closed the doors of medical institutes to girls and women, while the health sector across Afghanistan faces a shortage of personnel.
This action by the current government has resulted in millions of female students being denied education and schooling.
Additionally, women have been banned from going to sports clubs, restaurants, public baths, being examined by male doctors, traveling without a male guardian, working in local and international NGOs, and even at United Nations offices in Afghanistan.
According to reports, if this ban continues, nearly four million girls may be deprived of education by 2030.
