The United Nations Development Programme for Afghanistan has recently announced that it is assisting in improving women’s businesses and increasing their income.
The organization shared a message on its X account, highlighting the story of a woman named Zahra Ahmadi, who has expanded her work with the support of this agency and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The UN Development Programme emphasized that after Zahra’s husband became unemployed, she started a bakery to support her seven children and initially earned five thousand Afghanis per month.
The organization added that through training programs provided to Zahra, her monthly income has now increased to between ten to fifteen thousand Afghanis.
Since taking control of Afghanistan, the interim government has deprived women and girls of education and schooling. In its latest restriction, it closed the doors of medical institutes to girls and women, while the healthcare sector across Afghanistan is facing a shortage of personnel.
This action by the current government has resulted in millions of schoolgirls being unable to access education.
Additionally, women have been banned from going to sports clubs, restaurants, public baths, being examined by male doctors, traveling without a mahram (male guardian), working in domestic and international NGOs, and even in UN offices in Afghanistan.
According to reports, if this prohibition continues, nearly four million girls may be deprived of education by 2030.
