UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, has recently announced that female health workers play an important role in supporting mothers during breastfeeding.
In a statement released the organization wrote on its X account that UNICEF supports breastfeeding education programs, assists breastfeeding mothers, and prioritizes women’s nutrition and essential prenatal care.
The United Nations Children’s Fund emphasized that the health of mothers is foundational to the health of children, and supporting health services for women and mothers can improve the well-being of children.
This comes at a time when Afghanistan is facing a shortage of female health workers.
At the same time, health and humanitarian organizations have warned that this situation could challenge women’s and children’s access to essential health services, particularly maternal and neonatal care.
It is noteworthy that for nearly five years, female graduates in medical fields have been barred from taking the Exit Exam for medical graduates and specialties.
Additionally, medical institutes have been closed to girls, raising concerns about the shortage of female doctors and increasing health risks for mothers and newborns.
