Khadija Amin, an Afghan journalist and women’s rights activist, announced that she had received the “Lives in Support of Asylum” award at the 10th annual awards ceremony of the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR) in 2026.
In a post on her Facebook account, Amin wrote that the award recognized her work highlighting the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, bringing their voices to the attention of the international community, and defending the rights of refugees.
“This award is not just a personal achievement for me; it is also a valuable opportunity to bring attention to the efforts, abilities and accomplishments of refugees and migrants who, despite many difficulties, strive to integrate into their new communities and contribute positively to their growth and development,” she said.
She added that she was dedicating the award to all the courageous women of Afghanistan, and to all refugees and migrants who have never lost hope despite their pain and hardships.
“I hope that one day no one will be forced to leave their home and homeland in order to have safety, freedom and a dignified life. We may have left our homeland, but we have never left behind our hope, abilities, identity or dreams,” Amin said.
Amin left Afghanistan and sought refuge in Spain after the Taliban returned to power in August 2021.
She has continued her media and advocacy work in exile and remains committed to supporting the rights of Afghan women.
Amin also heads the “Hope of Freedom” Association, an organization that works to expand Afghan women’s and girls’ access to education and create opportunities for their empowerment and growth.
Since 2001, the CEAR Awards have recognized the efforts of individuals and organizations working to defend the right to asylum and support refugees, displaced people and forcibly displaced migrants. More than 50 candidates were nominated across various categories for the 10th edition of the awards.
